\n\nHe was a bank clerk for 36 years and lived in the neighbor hood of Villa Devoto.

Today I would do it differently. As each tan go lasts three minutes\, I would divide it into a prologue\, a development and an epilogue.

\n\nAngel Vargas:\, Possibily w ith Francisco Fiorentino\, he was the paradigm of the "orchestra singer"\, to such an extent that when we refer to Ángel Vargas\, we are inevitably re minded of Ángel D'Agostino\, the orchestra leader of his greatest hits.
\n\nA singer with impressive personality\, he is the symbol of "porteño" (from Buenos Aires) tango phrasing in the 40s. Vargas sings as only in the 40s tango was sung. His phrasing was "reo" and "compadrito" but at the same time of an infinite good taste.
\n\nAngel D´Agostino: \; His orchestra neither achieved the musical reco gnition that the orchestras of Aníbal Troilo\, Carlos Di Sarli or Osvaldo F resedo had\, nor produced the popular phenomenon of the Juan D'Arienzo orch estra\, but since 1940 up to the present\, tango generations never stopped their respect and admiration towards him.

\nTodays Tema: Alberto Castillo\, singer
Alberto Salvador De Lucca –this is his true name- was born on Decembe r 7\, 1914 in the neighborhood of Floresta\, in the western area of the cit y of Buenos Aires. He was the fifth child of a couple of Italian immigrants : Salvador De Lucca and Lucía Di Paola.
\n\nThe very peculiar style o f Alberto Castillo maybe has something to do with the mocking (humorous) gr ace of outskirts origin of Rosita Quiroga\, Sofía Bozán or Tita Merello. Bu t in no way these are influences\; neither have they similarity among them nor Castillo resembles them. Simply\, we could group them –and add them to the subsequent Elba Berón- because they are united by a common air\, the sa me unpolished cadence.
\n\nHowever\, when Castillo faces deep themes\
, the tenderness he conveys is striking. Definitively\, he is a "voice that
does not sound like any other's voice"\, as the unforgettable Julián Cente
ya wisely said. Nor his style is like anyone's\; when he himself said that
his peculiar phrasing was what the dancers needed -«people moved according
to the nuances of my voice»-\, He said to himself: «Here's the thing!» (som
ething that was needed\, that is eagerly awaited)\, and he never deviated f
rom that way of singing\, of that natural style of tango\, to which a detai
l of great importance must be added: his perfect intonation.
\nOn January 8\, 1941\, Tanturi's first record wit
h his vocalist Alberto Castillo appeared –he had just adopted his definitiv
e nickname\, suggested by a radio man\, Pablo Osvaldo Valle-\, the waltz "Recuerdo"\, by Alfredo Pelaia\, which was a boom in record
sales. A year later\, he graduated as gynecologist and placed his consultin
g room at his parents' house.His way of moving on the stage\, his way of ha
ndling the microphone and bouncing it to and fro\, his right hand close to
his mouth like street vendor\, his handkerchief hanging from his coat pocke
t\, his shirt collar unbuttoned and the necktie\, loose. All was unpreceden
ted\, everything produced sensation\, even his improvised boxing fights whe
n he sang "¡Qué saben los pitucos!" (from the tango "Así se baila
el tango"\, by Elías Randal and Marvil) and some "pituco" (fashion
able rich boy) considered himself alluded. To that we add his voice and his
style so peculiar and we shall find the explanation why when\, in 1944\, h
e sang at the Teatro Alvear\, the police had to interrupt the traffic of Co
rrientes street\, something that was not seen since the times of the female
bandoneonist Paquita Bernardo at the Café Domínguez.

Francisco Fiorentino was\, no do ubt\, the archetype of the "orchestra singer"\, a concept which synthetically describes the main feature of tango in the 40s\, when t he singer was a member of the group on the same level as the musicians. Fio rentino and Anibal Troilo achieved a well-oiled mechanism\, of a perfect ma tch where the orchestra was spotlighted in a long introduction to afterward s provide the adequate background necessary for the singer´s showcasing.
\n\n\;He was no virtuoso\, his voice was small and his diction was far from impeccable\, but these technical disadvantages did not hamper his amazing success\, his interpretations of the tangos "Gricel"\, "Garúa" and "De barro"\, of the waltz "Tu diagnóstico" and of the milonga "Mano Brava" turned out anthological.
\n\nHis personality\, his taste and the per
manent supervision by "Pichuco"(Anibal Troilo) resulted in an intimate sing
er of great warmth in his interpretation who knew how to touch the audience
\, establishing himself as a milestone in the history of tango vocalists.\nIn 1928 he had a chance to be included as bandoneon player in the
\;Since then\, he continued w ith that twofold capacity of bandoneonist and refrain singer in a great num ber of orchestras -Juan Carlos Cobián\, Roberto Firpo\, Pedro Maffi a\, Juan D'Arienzo\, Roberto Zerrillo\, Minotto Di Cicco- and taki ng part in recording and broadcasts.
\n\n\;In 1934\, as "estribi llista" in Roberto Zerrillo´s orchestra\, he produced the unique event of s inging a tango with its complete lyric on the recording of "Serenata de amo r" by Zerrillo and Oreste Cúfaro. So this foretold the end of the " estribillistas´" era to give way to the "orchestra singer´s" era.< /p>\n\n
\;After his stay with Troilo\, the highest point in his care er\, Fiorentino put together his own orchestra\, which was arranged and con ducted by Astor Piazzolla\, with which\, in spite of recor ding 22 songs\, he did not achieve what he expected. Ismael Spitalnik\, a r emarkable bandoneonist and arranger\, replaced Piazzolla to conduct the orc hestra\; they recorded two more tunes.
\n\nHe died on Septiembre 11\, 1955 in an accident in the province of Mendoza\, placed a thousand kilomet ers far from the city of Buenos Aires.

This peculiar musician is a faithful follower of the traditional rhythmical style played by Edgardo D onato and Juan D'Arienzo.
\n\nCriticized by innovators and praised by the dancers\, his orchestra enjoyed a great popularity in the forties and fifties\, either in Argentina or in the rest of Latin America.
\n\nHi s style was a breakthrough for the groups of the period\, because he played all kinds of genres\, introduced miscellaneous instruments and his reperto ire\, always assorted\, only included merry or romantic tunes.
\n\nBu t when he played tango\, you heard the brilliant sound of a well-rehearsed orchestra\, with simple nice arrangements and also with very good vocalists .
\n\nHe composed many pieces\, among them these are standouts: "Amig os de ayer"\, "En la buena y en la mala"\, "Iré"\, "Llorar por una mujer"\, "Son cosas del bandoneón"\, "Yo también tuve un cariño"\, "Lagrimitas de m i corazón"\, "Tengo mil novias"\, all them with lyrics by Enrique Cadícamo\ ; "Adiós\, adiós amor" with Roberto Escalada\; "Café" with Rafael Tuegols\; "Como has cambiado pebeta" with R. Carbone\; "Flor de lis" with Horacio Sa nguinetti\; "Sandía calada" with Máximo Orsi\; among many others.
\n\nBut with no doubt\, the most successful recording and the best seller was his waltz "Tengo mil novias" sung by Armando Moreno.
\n\nThe more ref ined tango audiences despised his style and ignored him. I respect him beca use everything he did was well done\, in a professional way\, even those th ings we may consider of an inferior quality. But above all\, his was a very good tango orchestra\, with beautiful harmonious sound\, either for listen ing or for dancing tango music.

The first Cad ícamo’s tango was “Pompas de jabón”
\n\nThe lyrics of “Anclao en Parí s” was written by Cadícamo in Barcelona in 1931. He sent it to Carlos Garde l who by then was in Nice (in whose Casino he had made his debut on January 15 that year). Guillermo Barbieri\, one of the guitarists of the singer\, composed its music and Gardel recorded it soon later.
\n\n“Tres esqui nas” alludes to the crossing of Montes de Oca and Osvaldo Cruz Streets in t he neighborhood of Barracas\, and to the café called "Tres esquinas"\, late r "Cabo Fels"\, located in that place. The lyric was written by Cadícamo in 1940 for a previous music composed by Ángel D’Agostino (that of the unpubl ished tango entitled “Pobre piba”). It was premiered that year by Ángel Var gas who sang with the D’Agostino Orchestra.
\n\nOther interesting tan gos are: “Muñeca brava”\, with reminiscences of some Celedonio Flores’s tan gos\, written to a music by Luis Visca that had won the 6th prize for tango s without lyrics of the 5th contest organized by Max Glücksmann in 1928\; “ Cruz de palo”\, recorded by Gardel on March 1\, 1929\; “De todo te olvidas” that quotes some famous quatrains by Evaristo Carriego —the ones entitled “Tu secreto” that are part of the “Ofertorios galantes” of the “Misas herej es”— and was awarded the 1st prize for tangos with lyrics in the 6th Max Gl ücksmann contest held at the Palace Theatre in 1929\; “Niebla del Riachuelo ” sung by Tita Merello in the movie “La fuga” directed by Luis Saslavsky an d premiered at the Monumental cinema theater on July 28\, 1937. “Pa’ que ba ilen los muchachos”\, the monumental “Los mareados”\, with music of the tan go “Los dopados” composed by Juan Carlos Cobián\, and “Garúa” were recorded by Aníbal Troilo w ith Francisco Fiorentino on vocals.
\n\nAnd in like manner we may go on commenting successful titles until getting
exhausted with that purpose. Undoubtedly\, Enrique Cadícamo was one of the
most prolific authors of our popular music.

\nNickname: Barbeta
Manzi has given\, like no one else\, poetry to tango lyrics. He was a poet who never published a book of poems. His poetry was evidenced only through songs\, f rom country themes to urban music\, the latter where he would be at his bes t. In this way he became immensely popular without giving up his poet feeli ngs. He resorted to metaphors\, even surrealist\, but never so much as to p revent ordinary people from fully understanding his message. He never used "lunfardo" (Buenos Aires slang or argot) in his literary pieces\, although his work was very much addressed to a popular audience. Unlike other great authors\, his lyrics are not chronicles of the social reality nor do they c onvey moral messages. Longing and nostalgia are often present in his verses as in tango itself. Through them\, Manzi depicts people and things with te nderness and sympathy. The poor -suburban- neighborhood is his great stage. His tango "Sur"\, 1948\, with music written by the bandon eon player Anibal Troilo\, possibly the most superb work i n the genre in that glamorous decade\, summarizes the essence of his work.< /p>\n\n
A decisive contribution by Manzi to the Río de la Plata music was his updating and enriching of the "milonga"\, a genre that shares its orig in with tango. Together with the pianist Sebastián Piana\, he wrote great c lassics such as "Milonga sentimental"\, "Milonga del 900"\, and "Mi longa triste". Piana and Manzi wrote\, furthermore\, remarkable ta ngos such as "El pescante" and "De barro" and a waltz particularly beautiful: "Paisaje"\, not to me ntion "Viejo ciego" whos e melody notes -following the poem- were written by Piana and Cátulo Castillo.
\n\n&nb sp\;
\n\nAnother particular aspect of Manzi's works was his mimesis w
ith the romantic fever caught by the tango in the 40s\, to which he contrib
uted valuable pieces such as "Fruta amarga"\, "Torrente"\, "Después"\, "Ninguna" or "Fuimos". The l
atter\, written together with the inspired bandoneon player José Dames\, is
a poem with extremely daring images ("I was like a rain of ashes and fatig
ue /in the resigned hours of your life ...") considering that it was a popu
lar song\; however\, "Fuimos" would charm both public and interpreters\, re
maining as a paradigm of the elaborated and aesthetically ambitious tango.<
/p>\n\n \; Manzi's rich and extensive production includes
at least a number of outstanding tangos\, mainly for their quality: "Abando
no" with Pedro Maffia\; "Malena"\; "Solamente ella"\; "

\n\nHis short 44 y ears were also enough for him to indulge in journalism and teaching\, to ta ke active part in films and get strongly involved in trade unions and polit ics\, that ended up with his enrolment in the political party led by Juan D omingo Perón. Tango lyrics were\, however\, his true medium\, and they are what keep him alive.

\n\nListening to Roberto Rufino when he sang "María " or "La novia ausente" or "Malena" or any of the tangos he had chosen for his repertoire\, was to realize that that tango was unraveling little by li ttle and that the words sprang up separately\, without forsaking the whole that gathered them\, with the proper strength they had to have in their con text.
\n\n\;Rufino was that: a storyteller\, a phraser\, an inte rpreter that perfectly knew which was the meaning of what he was singing.\nHe was born on January 6\, 1922\, on 753 Agüero Street –in the heart of the neighborhood of el Abasto-\, son of Lorenzo Rufino and Agustina Guir in\, although in his birth certificate is written the day he was filed on t he records\, on the 8th day of that same month and year. A little bit yonde r\, on Agüero and Guardia Vieja Streets\, the café O'Rondeman was placed\, where Carlos Gardel attempted his early songs. A premonition? Maybe\, \ ;Rufino was called "El pibe Terremoto". \;
\n\nTogether with Di S arli\, they recorded \;forty-six numbers. Meanwhile\, he had two brief breaks\, with the orchestras of Alfredo Fanuele (1941) and Emilio Orlando ( 1942)\, to once again reunite with "El Señor del Tango" in 1943.

An innate faculty f or musical invention and a delicate creative \; temper identified\, fro m the very beginning\, the characteristics of his oeuvre.
\n\nInvolve d\, by reasons of intimate aesthetic affinity with the Romantic school that was born with the tangos written by Juan Carlos Cobian and Enrique Delfino he shared with the latter and withFrancisco Canaro\, Carlos Geronio Flores \, and with Julio De Caro’s style\, when he composed pieces like "Copacaban a"\, and with theAgustin Bardi of "Nunca tuvo novio"\, a front line of “rom antic songs” of first class \; released between 1915 and 1935\, a perio d of height of this formal and moody variety of tango.
\n\nHe was bor n in Buenos Aires. His father was the violinist Domingo Demare. Like his br other Lucas (later movie director with an outstanding career) that devoted himself to bandoneon\, he devoted to piano. He studied the technical discip lines of the instrument with Vicente Scaramuzza.
\n\nIn his beginning s as professional he joined the orchestra fronted by the bandoneonist Nicol ás Verona. In 1926 Francisco Canaro –then playing in France and about to le ave for New York\, wanted to leave a group under his name in Paris-\, so he summoned him to join it at the Florida dancehall. Thereafter\, on recommen dation of the composer of “La tablada”\, he teamed up with the singers Agus tín Irusta and Roberto Fugazot to form the well-known Irusta‑Fugazot‑Demare trio that made its debut at the Teatro Maravillas of Madrid.
\ n\nWith his trio partners he was starred in some Spanish films –“Boliche ”\, among them‑\, so cutting a series of recordings for Victor in Barcelona . Among them we highlight “Capricho de Amor”\, played by him on piano and S am Reznik on violin\, and “Mi musa campera”\, recorded by an orchestra cond ucted by him and with Agustín Irusta on vocals.
\n\nWith his orchestr a he appeared in the movie “Sangre y acero” (1955). In later years the most important things of his career were linked to his outstanding work as solo ist ‑on occasions shared with Chiriaco Ortiz or wit Máximo Morit in Buenos Aires n ight clubs. And in his own venue\, the Tanguería de Lucio\, on Can gallo Street. In 1969 it moved to San Telmo\, on Balcarce and Giuffra\, now named Malena al Sur.

\n\nIn an u ndeniable Gardelian tradition\, tenor register and velvet sound\, his peak in popularity coincided exactly with the period of greatest popularity for tango: from his inclusion in the Miguel Caló orchestra in 1939 until his wi thdrawal from the Aníbal Troilo orchestra in 1955. The wide and varied repe rtory sung by Berón reveals his skill to understand every topic and mood of the genre\, from the dramatic to the funny ones\, whom he always interpret ed with finesse and moderation\, quite far from extremes. He was a warm int imate singer who turned around the circuit of the most elaborated tango\, a s his career with leaders of high quality as Lucio Demare or Argentino Galv án shows us.

For many p eople\, she was the most remarkable female tango singer or at least the most representative and eclectic. Considering her popularity\, she made few recordings and what is worse\, her repertoire -of an ir regular quality- combined tango\, milonga and "porteño" waltz wi th several country or exotic genres\, reflecting her continental projection. She reached the top of fame in the 30s and 40s. Her art was basically addressed to the large portion of urban middl e class through an emotional yet refined style. Thus\, she avoid ed "lunfardo" expressions (Buenos Aires argot or slang) and cult ivated a naive romanticism.
\nSimone belonged to the rich generation of singers of the mid 20s\, a unique generation that paved the way for women in tango. In those years singers such as Azucena M aizani\, Rosita Quiroga\, Libertad Lamarque\, Ada Fal cón and others with very different registers would appear. From them all\, Simone stood out as the most universal tango singer. With her mezzo-soprano register\, slow rhythm and perfect dictio n she became a pattern to follow.
\nHer most select versions include "La marcha nupcial" and "Milonga sentimental" in 193 2\; "La última cita"\, "Mía"\, and "Cuatro palabras" in 1933\; "Esta noche me disfrazo" and "Esquinas porteñas" in 19 34\; "Será una noche" and the waltz "Náufrago" in 1936\; "Milong a triste" in 1937\; "Abandono"\, "Caricias"\, "Carnaval de mi barrio"\, "Vieja amiga" and "Media vida" in 1938\; "Claudinette" in 1942\; "Barrio de tango" and "Garúa" in 1943\; and "Cada día te extraño más"\, "Verdemar"\, "Motivo sentimental" and "Otra n oche" in 1944.

oneones\, Contrabajo\, Piano y Cantor. Conformando así una auténtica
"Orquesta Típica"\; quizás la agrupación de tango por excelencia\, única p

La Orquesta
Típica Misteriosa Buenos Aires busca fortalecer y mantener vivo el víncul
o entre música y baile que el tango creó desde sus orígenes y mantuv
o hasta su gran desarrollo\, sin que por ésto\, la música se vea limitada
a un mero acompañamiento para el bailarín\, sino más bien\, desarroll
ando un tango con la calidad necesaria para que pueda ser disfrutado tanto
por los bailarines como por los que solamente escuchan\; ya que con
sideramos que éstas fueron las premisas pautadas por las grandes orquestas
típicas de la época de oro del tango.
La orquesta posee un estilo de c
arácter popular por ser bailable\; adoptando la línea Disarliana\, reivind
ica la melodía\, la canción y el romanticismo.
Desde esta perspectiva
estilística\, Misteriosa Buenos Aires propone un tango actual\, un tango q
ue represente al Buenos Aires de hoy\, sin que por eso pierda su esen
cia\, que sea realmente la evolución natural de una música popular que va
modificándose a través de los cambios de su pueblo.
Su director Javier Arias\, fue el fundador\, pianista y arreglador de
la Orquesta Típica Fervor de Buenos Aires\, creada en el año 2003\, e
n la cual participaron también cuatro músicos integrantes del actual proye
cto: Emiliano Bonfiglio\; Esteban Carbonella\; Ernesto Gomez y Damián
Gonzalez Gantes.
Luego de haber realizado dos giras europeas (2007\; 2
008)\, presentaciones en Latinoamérica y haber editado su primer CD "Quién
sos" en el año 2006\, exitoso material actualmente presente en toda
s las milongas del mundo\, la Orquesta Típica Fervor de Buenos Aires se
disuelve en el año 2008.
Continuando la misma idea musical\, nace l
a Orquesta Típica Misteriosa Buenos Aires.

Marcelos Curriculum
\nIn 1991\, after studding intensively contemporary dance\, jazz and modern ballet\, Marcelo turned to Argentine T ango and started his studies with the authentic milongueros de la Guardia Vieja Rodolfo and Maria Cieri. During 1994 and 1999 he continued his searc h of his tango with the most renowned maestros of different styles\, such a s: Juan Carlos Copes (stage tango)\, Nito y Elba (Tango Salón)\, Pepito Ave llaneda (milonga)\,Gustavo Naveira (nuevo tango) and many others. Since 19 99 Marcelo was performing in various prestigious theatres of Buenos Aires: La Cumparsita\, Bar Sur\, La Ventana\, El viejo Almacén\, Homero Manzi and Café Tortoni. In 2001 and 2002 Marcelo Almiron was dancing in different sh ows in the famous Theatre Colón\, sharing the stage with Marisa Quiroga\, i n the show “En Una Suite de Tango” in the theatre Centro Cultural Borges to gether with the group of dancers of the Theatre Colón\, and others. He als o danced in the tango show of the company Tango x 2 in the production Una n oche de Tango. Marcelo was invited to participate in the first and the sec ond edition of the World Tango Festival of Buenos Aires. He won the 2nd Pre mium in the Championship of La Viruta and of Tangauta. He was also invited to teach special intensive seminars in Tango Canyengue in different cities of Argentina and South America. Since 2003 he has been teaching and perfor ming at various festivals various countries in Europe\, such as\, but not l imited to: Portugal\, Spain\, France\, Italy\, Greece and Cyprus. Between 2 004 and 2008 he had a big tour with seminars all over UK\, teaching in more than 40 cities. In Buenos Aires Marcelo has been teaching in the most impo rtant tango schools: Esc. Arg. de tango\, Tango Brujo\, Made in tango\, Vie jo correo and Milonguera. He was also presenting Argentina with his dance a t the Expo Zaragoza in 2008. The style of Marcelo Almiron can be described as authentic traditional tango (“milonguero”)\, but he also uses the elemen ts of the modern tendencies of tango nuevo\, thus forming his unique fusion . His rich experience of more than 18 years in tango combined with the pass ionate expression and great professionalism reflects in his art-creating wa y of dancing tango. In his classes he offers his sharp and deep vision of a ll dimentions of this dance. His unique teaching method is a result of many years of teaching and performing experience and a quintessence of his know ledge in tango. The core objective of his teaching method is to give his students the understanding of tango and the ability to create their own dan ce.

\nL uiza is a very talented tango dancer from Poland. She is a very experienced teacher. She’s been teaching dancing since her studies\, tango - since 200 3. She organizes workshops and performs in exhibitions in Poland and abroad (Buenos Aires\, Great Britain\, Germany\, Italy\, Canada\, etc.). Tango is like a conversation for her. Her dance is full of warmth\, sensuousness an d precision.
\nHer teaching is based not only in tango. She uses differents methods of didactics combining biomechanique\, psychology and dance/movement therapy techniques to give the students a deep understanding of the body and moveme nt so they can discover and develop their potencial and enjoy the dance. \n
Among her teachers were: Mariano "Chicho" Frumboli &\; Eugeni a Parilla\, Mariano Galeano\, Pablo Villarraza &\; Dana Frigoli\, Gonzal o Alonso &\; Mariel Robles\, Hektor Corona &\; Silvia Machado\, Gastó n Torelli &\; Mariela Sametband\, Cecilia Garcia\, Horacio Godoy\, Julio Balmaceda &\; Corina de la Rosa\, Thierry Le Cocq &\; Veronique Bous casse\, Pablo Inza\, Claudio Villagra\, Margarita Klurfan &\; Marcelo Al varez\, Walter Cardozo\, Luis Bianchi.
