Tangocamp is an international Argentine Tango festival where you can dance, eat, sleep and practice, all in one place! It takes place in 4 countries: Italy, Greece, Sweden and Germany and in this group you can find out more about it, see pictures and videos from previous Tangocamps and most importantly, help us to make the festival even better with your feedback and suggestions!
Who is Tangocamp for?
Tangocamp is for anyone interested in tango on any level. Even though we recommend taking the workshops during the camp, you can also just come to the milongas whether you'd like to dance or just listen to the music. However, if you are interested in taking lessons to improve the level of your dancing, we have designed the workshops at Tangocamp to be appropriate for dancers of all levels, from basic to master!
More about the Tangocamp concept and our intentions when designing it
The concept of Tangocamp is based on the high quality of the classes as well as the social aspect of the festival. Workshops are organized in groups by level and being in the same group for 4 days gives the participants the chance to meet up to 15 other couples (groups are kept to about 16 couples) of the same level and get to know them better. This way there are already 15 potential partners to dance with at the milongas! Our intention is to provide you with the best possible setup in order to make it easy... effortless for you to learn and enjoy yourself.
More about the workshops
The teachers are instructed to run the workshops in a fashion that encourages working together as a team and communicating with other students. Like any self-respecting festival, we keep the number of people per workshop low and make sure there is an equal number of men and women. This ensures that only the best conditions possible exist for the group to develop. We adjust the schedule of the groups depending on the needs of each level. We use our experience as teachers and organizers combined with the feedback we get from our students and participants as our guide.
Further, the workshops don’t carry a fixed title. We discovered that the quality of the lessons rises dramatically, when the instructors are given the freedom to adjust their classes according to the level of each group. This way the teachers are able to give their favourites at the moment and not something that inspired them half a year earlier.
All the teachers are of the highest standard and unlike most other festivals, they are spread out across groups of all levels. This way, everyone gets an excellent line-up of teachers and gets to be taught by most of the Tangocamp teachers, if not all!
The History of Tangocamp
Tangocamp was created by Pino Dangiola who, like most tango dancers, travelled many distant places just to dance and was very frustrated with the quality of festivals at the time. He considered that a proper tango festival ought to bring people together and have excellent facilities. Thus he ran Tangocamp for the first time in Sweden in 2000. Tangocamp was the first tango festival that was truly focused on the dancers: good floors, all-night-long milongas, minimum talk and paperwork and maximum dancing. Also, unlike other festivals, Tangocamp brought the dancers together by housing them in the same hotel as the festival and keeping the groups so that the dancers can get to know each other throughout. Finally, all the Tangocamp teachers were of a high standard and allocated across the groups so that all the participants get to be taught by the teachers they want.
After its success in 2000, Tangocamp has been running in Sweden ever since and in 2003, the first Tangocamp in Greece was ran, making Tangocamp perhaps the first and only festival that runs in more than one country. In 2005, Tangocamp was brought to Italy and Germany was Tangocamp's latest addition in 2006. This makes a total of 24 Tangocamps that has been produced! We aspire to make Tangocamp the most exciting tango happening in Europe and one of the largest in the world while of course keeping its high quality!
